SMALLVILLE SEASON 11 -or- where I've been hiding

There isn't all that much I can openly say just yet. Of my handful of secret projects I've been chipping away at, this is the one that's been in the works the longest. TECHNICALLY, there's one that's been gestating longer... but that's a very different post for a very different day.

The first 12 weeks are the "season premiere". It has a one-word title. As always, they will all have one-word titles. And, for the folks who'll know what this means, the second "episode" has Intern Jeff.

And Episode 3 just might start with roommates Jeff and Bert debating things over breakfast in their odd-couple apartment.

Can't wait to start sharing Pere Perez's dynamite art. For now, here are the equally awesome covers to Smallville, Season 11 issue #1.

Can't wait to read it! Especially about Oliver Queen and Chloe Sullivan-Queen</B>! I hope you know I had a much better attitude with my co-workers today after reading the news that I would get more on my favorite couple! Thank you so much! =D

oh man, Clark as superman? Lex,
clark and Lois? yeah, definitely buying this!

So just to understand, the digital comic premieres on April 13th and the following 11 weeks completes that first "episode". For the print edition, are they going to compile it into 4 parts, each filled with three weeks of the story? Or is the first print issue the complete first episode?

Will the digital cover be an optional variation on the print cover? I like it better tbh, but I'm not sure how these things work. It's been a long time since I bought comic books from my local indie bookstore. I'm tempted by digital just for that great cover, but I really want to own it in print also. Looking forward to your work!

I really pray that this finally lets Clark stand on his own without making others (*cough*chloe*cough*) shine at his expense. I waited 10 to see Superman in Smallville and I was a little disappointed in the end, now is the time to take the focus on Clark even if it's an ensemble book)
Good Luck Bryan! I'm sure that if anyone can make this work it's YOU!

Hugely looking forward to this! Ever since the rumor was out there in December you were doing this, I've been wondering who the artist would be. So happy you're working with Pere Perez again, the end of Batgirl looked fantastic. I can't wait to see the interiors and how all the characters look. Def buying this both in digital and print. And I love that this is going to be coming in weekly installments, what a great schedule! It'll be like the show airing weekly again.

(Also loving that you've gotten a blog while this project is starting. Brings me back to the good old days of Smallville fandom with DeKnight's MySpace.)

My favourite versions of Lois and Clark, written by my favourite writer? Wow, the universe is being so good to me!
Congratulations, Mr. Miller, I wish you the best of luck and every success. You're one of the very few people who can truly do justice to the greatness, complexity and humanity of these wonderful characters, and I can't wait to be swept off my feet and fall in love with them all over again.

So excited! Smallville is my favorite show and to have a book where the Clark and Lois relationship is going strong is music to my ears! Looking forward to reading about Clark's early days as superman!

For this, I will be temporarily lifting the ban I have made on DC products.

Smallville's Clark Kent and Lois Lane are my favorite incarnation of the super couple! Can you imagine the joy you gave me when I found out about this fantastic news? I am ecstatic! You know endorphins? They're all over the place and going wild!

The digital cover by Cat Staggs is awesome! I wish Gary Frank's print cover looked more like Tom Welling (after all it's Smallville's Clark Kent/Superman, isn't it?). From all I've read, Pere Perez interiors should be great. And last but not least, I know the story you'll be penning will be no less than stellar.

I can't wait to read Smallville Season 11. Bring it on!

Dear Lord, I'm on cloud nine right now! "Smallville" is been a really important part of my life and I can't believe it is going to continue. I love Clark. I love Lois. I love Clois. I love YOU! Always hold on to Smallville.

I watched Smallville but my true love has always been the comic books. I got my first comic book when I was 5, Superman's Girlfriend Lois Lane. My dad would take me with him to the drug store to buy the Sunday paper. He'd get the paper and buy me a comic book. I wasn't thrilled with the DC reboot but willing to give it a chance. However, I'm not happy with the direction of the Superman books. It isn't so much the loss of the marriage but the emotional core of the triangle for two seems to be lost as well. I also don't like that Lois is no longer a reporter and Martha Kent is dead. So when I heard this news I was thrilled. Martha Kent is back, Lois is a reporter and Clark & Lois are together again. Sign me up! I'm curious how many pages in the weekly and ,of course, how much it'll cost. I'm not asking though, I understand it's DC's announcement to make.

This news has made me so happy! Mr. Miller, you write a fantastic Lois Lois and an amazing Clark Kent. Episodes like your "Committed," "Bulletproof," "Hex," "Echo," and "Masquerade" were so fun and emotionally engaging that I couldn't be more pleased you're the writer who is penning this series.

I was never a big comic reader until SMALLVILLE exposed me to the DC universe. I've loved Superman/Clark and Lois Lane since I was a little girl, though, so it was natural for me to gravitate towards this television series. I stuck with the show for an entire decade. I've missed the characters and the world they inhabited. It'll be great to reconnect with them again.

Lois, more than any other female character on the show, touched and inspired me. She embodies what I believe to be the core characteristics of a strong female character. I love her humor, her strength, her intelligence, and her vulnerability. I have faith you will continue to write her with the same strength, independence, wit, and grace she had on the show. You also *get* Clark, too, which is such a rarity these days. He's smart, fun, compassionate, and strong without being overly dark. And, since I love both Lois and Clark as individuals and as a couple, it'll be great to read more of your take on them. I hope Clark and Lois will be the heart of this series.

I can't wait to read what you've been working on. I can't wait to read about a Superman I admire and respect.

I had written off DC for good after the reboot but this is one comic I am going to buy. Smallville's Clark Kent was the one thing that Superman has to be in order to become the greatest hero of the world: Human. I won't say that he was a flawless character but his morals and his love and loyalty were what made him stand apart from the rest of the heroes as it should be. Also, can't wait to have Lois and Clark back, their relationship is the heart of Superman's story, no matter how much DC bosses try to convince us otherwise.

My only grudge: It could have done without Chloe. The character had become pointless and annoying by the time Season 9 aired so I don't see what more can they do with her. I also find it hard to believe that Ollie is still married to her after all those years. Where's our Dinah Lance? Or better yet, bring Tess Mercer back!

You sir are a legend. Not to mention responsible for some of my favorite Smallville episodes ever. Season 11 could not be in better hands. Bless you, Mr Bryan Q. Miller. Bless you.

DEAR Q,

GIVEN THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF YOUR PARTICIPATION IN SEASON ELEVEN OF SMALLVILLE, I AM WRITING TO INFORM YOU OF A CERTAIN URGENT MATTER.

NAMELY, MY SERIOUS AMOUNT OF FEELINGS REGARDING [Smallville ship of preference]. [Ship of preference] IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE SERIES AND I THOUGHT YOUR WRITING OF THEM WAS VASTLY SUPERIOR COMPARED TO ANYONE ELSE'S ON THE WRITING TEAM. I SINCERELY HOPE THIS TREND CONTINUES IN SEASON ELEVEN.

IN ADDITION, I MUST ALSO INFORM YOU AS TO MY EQUALLY IMPORTANT FEELINGS REGARDING [Smallville character].

[Character] IS THE [most/least] IMPORTANT CHARACTER IN THE HISTORY OF THE SERIES AND IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT YOU SHOW THEM THE AMOUNT OF ATTENTION I PERSONALLY THINK THEY DESERVE. IF YOU HAVE MADE SOME KIND OF OVERSIGHT WHERE [character] IS CONCERNED, I STRONGLY ADVISE ALL SCRIPTS BE REWRITTEN AND PAGES BE REDRAWN BEFORE RELEASE TO CORRECT THIS MATTER.

PLEASE KEEP THIS IN MIND, SINCE WHILE YOU ARE BY FAR THE MOST SUPERIOR MIND TO EVER GRACE THE SMALLVILLE WRITER'S ROOM, AS A FAN I FEEL IT IS MY RESPONSIBILITY TO KEEP YOU FROM DOING EVERYTHING WRONG.

WHICH -- DESPITE BEING THE BEST WRITER IN THE HISTORY OF THE SERIES -- YOU HAVE A PAST HISTORY OF DOING.

FOR EXAMPLE, I FELT PERSONALLY VICTIMIZED BY YOUR WRITING OF [character/ship] IN THE SEASON [8/9/10] EPISODE [insert title here]. PLEASE AVOID SIMILAR PITFALLS IN THE FUTURE.

OTHER THAN THAT YOU ARE A PERFECT HUMAN BEING AND THE BEST WRITER EVER. AND I'M NOT JUST SAYING THAT TO SUCK UP.

WISHING YOU THE GREATEST SUCCESS,

THE BIGGEST SMALLVILLE FAN EVER
(NOT LIKE THOSE OTHER FANS. A REAL FAN.)

This is fantastic news! I want to congratulate you, Mr. Miller, and to wish you good luck with the book and every other one of of your projects, because (as apparently it needs to be said) it's my PLEASURE to have the opportunity to say thank you, and to give you back some of the good feelings that your writing (both on the show and in the comics) has inspired in me so many times.

I love what you said about Clark getting to enjoy talking to people and shaking their hands after a save, it's such a heartwarming image. And of course I can't wait to see Jeff and Bert again! They're just like us, aren't they? Hopelessly and enthusiastically in love with their heroes.

So basically one of my favorite writers of one of my favorite comic books (Batgirl) and tv shows is writing the continuation of said favorite tv show, which produced my all time favorite version of Clark Kent and Lois Lane and the portrayal of their relationship, and that this relationship is still in existence...is basically the best early birthday present in the universe.

February 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterNatasha

I will give this a chance to support Smallville's Lois & Clark.

February 12, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterChandrika

I'm so excited to see that you're on another book, Q! I've really missed your comics since Steph's Batgirl run ended, and of course I've been missing SV since it's gone off the air; so this project is really exciting. I can't wait to see where you go with it, the change in format should allow some fun returns otherwise not possible (Lex, Kara, maybe even Lana?) as well as those that really had no chance on tv (Bruce, Diana, maybe even a Green Latern?)

Anyway I'm sure you'll bring a good mix of classical WB!Smallville along into the new DC comice SV world, and can't wait to see Clark having to live with a public persona, Chloe's return to journalism, the new structure of the JLA, and of course all the other side characters that lead to the world building of SV's Metropolis. It's great to hear that we'll see more Jeff and Bert; I can't wait to see whom else we meet, or one off characters return.

Congrats and I can't wait for April, the weekly format is such a treat as are the digital covers. :)
