I know... it's been like three weeks since I've dished about donuts. Fear not - it isn't like I've been eating them and not sharing. Been busy-busy-busy. And donuts ALWAYS get in the way of productivity. So, without further ado...
BLINKIES!
With a name like "Blinkie's Donut Emporium," I'll admit I was expecting a little bit of:

Yet what one finds upon arrival is actually:

The lesson here is to never judge a book by its cover. Judge a book by its flavor.
MAPLE-ICED OLD FASHIONED - My go-to is usually the chocolate iced old fashioned, but, considering the debacle that was the maple-iced in the last review, I figured it was time for redemption. And redeemed it was! Great old-fashioned donut here at Blinkie's. Thin, but flavorful, icing. Really nice crispy-outside to fluffy-inside texture ration. Wonderful donut. Top drawer stuff.
CAKE WITH EH-CHOCOLATE ICING AND EH-SPRINKLES - What helped the old fashioned hurts the cake iced a little. The ratio is pretty much the same, fluffy inside/crispy outside. You just kind of want a softer bite for this kind of treat, right? The icing was okay flavor-wise, but a little on the thin side. But I can't hold too much against this one. It got a little fresh with me.
No, YOU stop!
POWDERED - Now, I could have gone for a jelly. I just HATE jelly donuts. I know, I know. At some point... I'll have to eat another jelly donut yadayada whatever. Jelly may have helped this one. Not even dreadful, this donut. Just... there. Devoid of all flavor. I don't know what I was expecting from a just-powdered donut. Would much rather have had a beignet. Have you not had a beignet? Go find a beignet. A real beignet. Which means you need to drive/fly to New Orleans. Note: Jazz Fest IS on the horizon. Go to the bathroom before you leave. For the trip.
GLAZED - Not much to say about this one, except that when a glazed goes wrong, it goes WRONG. This one, however, right in all the right ways. Very chewy. Very soft. Very sweet. Little sticky, but not obscene. All-in-all, a lovely glazed donut.
OVERALL:
So, here we are. Two wonderful donuts, one okay donut, and one wreck. How did Blinkie's fare? And, more importantly, was it worth the 20 mile drive on Sunday morning to acquire the toroidals? Yes. Yes, it was. Highly recommended if you're ever in the Topanga Canyon neighborhood.
